Artist’s note: “We are coming up on one year since the devastating fires that rocked our world here in Napa and in Sonoma. I have embarked on a series of aerial photographs with the intent to chronicle the resiliency of the earth around us with the intention to inspire and recognize the resiliency within us as we overcome the loss and rebuild structurally and emotionally. Many of my friends lost their homes, possessions, irreplaceable family heirlooms, art collections, musical instruments, animals, forests, and some have been touched by death of loved ones. I could not accomplish this task without the pilots who have been so generous to fly me above the Vaca and Mayacamas mountains that I may photograph the landscape.”–Lowell Downey
