Art Responds: The Wine Country Fires, curated by Rina Faletti, is an art exhibition, film event, and series of public gatherings at First Street Napahonoring the one-year anniversary of the 2017 North Bay Wildfires. The art exhibition features the work of eleven established artists whose lives and work were directly influenced by the fires.

One of these artists, Jeff Frost, will be debuting his art film “California On Fire” related to his stunning photographs included in the exhibition. Frost qualified as a wildland firefighter, so he could film behind fire lines. He has transformed 500,000 still photographs into a stunning time-lapse film that shows the stars cycling in concert with the fires.

A second film, by Kevin White and Stephen Most, speaks more directly about how fire suppression and climate change have altered wildfire scenarios. The award-winning “Wilder Than Wild: Fire, Forests and the Future” takes us on a fascinating and timely California wildfire journey, from the Rim Fire of 2013 to the wine country fires of 2017. The film explores how the proactive use of prescribed fire, native tribal traditions of cultural fire, and local community groups can work together to restore and manage the lands and watersheds we love and depend on.
